I'm taking a break from the weekly essay to do final field tests on a prospective software program for writing. The software might replace all the complicated and cluttered “apps” I struggle with. As a minimalist, I demand simple, distraction-free formats. I don't have enough time or patience to change how fonts, spacing, colors, and formatting look in standard word processors. Also, I'm trying to outrun the integration of AI (artificial intelligence) into writing software. I work as “raw” as possible. I've tried a few AI-based writing programs. They create distortion in what I what I’m trying to communicate.
Over the past six months, I've been taking a lot of notes and testing ideas. My goal is to improve this newsletter while working on a "special” writing project. The software needed must not only be simple to use but have the ability to organize everything in one place. Not that software makes the writer, but having the right tools is essential. In the 1,378 days since retirement, I've adjusted my activities, obligations, and mindset to devote more quality time to the project. Principle work starts in January. In the meantime, I'm gathering more tools, finalizing schedules, and sharpening more pencils. ✏️
