Things were going too smooth on X (formerly known as Twitter). I even purchased a verified account to get rid of ads…I hate ads.
Yesterday, as I browsed over to X, I received a notification that my account was locked for retweeting journalist Ken Klippenstein's article about Joe Biden. Klippenstein's X account was recently suspended because he allegedly revealed J.D. Vance’s personal information in another article.
It’s no secret that Elon Musk is supporting Trump and Vance. Whether it was a human or the algorithm that flagged me doesn’t matter. It appears I was collateral damage. Others have also reported being locked out. After reviewing the facts, it took me all of three minutes to delete my X account. When customer service wanted a reason why, I stated:
“My account was suspended for retweeting an article by @kenklippenstein that did not have anything to do with the article he was suspended for. I did not release anyone's personal information. It appears that anything by @kenklippenstein is to be censored. There is no free speech on X. Fuck X. I'll take my business elsewhere.“
As of this date, I have not received a response, nor do I expect one.
I’m not playing this McCarthy Era shit. You shouldn't either. Here's what I’ve done besides deleting my X account:
1. I’m publicizing this situation here on Substack. I urge others not to support X or any other social media that censors independent journalism. X is not even worthy as a business. It takes your money, offering a defective "product" of free speech.
2. I've redirected the money I spent at X to other independent journalists.
3. I’m concentrating all my efforts here at Substack.
4. I recommend using the websites and email newsletters of independent journalists. No more going through gatekeepers like Elon Musk and X.
This is true in literally every level, because it’s scary living in a McCarthy Era: I’m not playing this McCarthy Era shit.
I am not a user of X, but I support your decision and thank you for sharing this information.
