Bread and Circuses
...and a whole lot of phoney
Thank you all for responding to my commentary on Julianna Margulies' attempt to shame black people. I appreciate the public and private responses.
In the 21st century, the genocide of 18,700 human beings, including 7,000 children, shows that we can no longer ignore the politics of celebrities. Their notoriety does not give them instant expertise to speak so arrogantly. As I responded to fellow writer C. Elyse, I don't remember seeing Julianna Margulies at any civil rights demonstrations!
Before I moved to California, I studied and wrote about the cultural influence of film and television. Now that I live hours away from Los Angeles, I’m exposed to more direct industry news and information. I understand Hollywood better. Some there have sacrificed fame and fortune to improve the world through art. But, the majority have no social or political consciousness. When you poke them, the so-called lefties in LA are as racist, sexist, and classist as the rest of the nation. It's about money and image. They are complicit with the politicians, corporations, and mainstream press. They distract the population with Bread and Circuses. It's time to include Hollywood, or "Hollyweird" as Gil Scott-Heron used to sing, to our list of those who oppose peace and justice.

JTJ, I appreciate this scolding, albeit subtle, it is still effective and you are correct: one cannot be drafted to a BS team, if one is unavailable for drafting!
This was well stated. The media plays a great part in how we see how selves and what we think we desire in order to be happy. My mum always said no one can truly be happy if one person is unhappy. I wish you all loads for happiness for 2024!
